Wootini

Asian pop culture, Kozyndan, 3-D characters, pixel art, Japanese candy, plushy toys, painted skate decks… I’m not sure what others call this genre, but in Chapel Hill, it’s Wootini. Roller Skate for Health by Brian McCarty Wootini, located in the Carr Mill Shops adjacent to Weaver Street Market, is divided into a gallery and retail store. Some of the toys and Asian-influenced dolls are amusing or visually rich, but don’t have much of an impact on me. Do people take the toys out of the packages and play with them? Do you leave them in the package and collect them like Star Wars figures? But there are some great finds here: affordable, interesting prints, decks, photographs, and t-shirts. I’m looking foward to next Friday’s opening, “So Far No Good” featuring work from Sam Fout and Angel Devil.
