Locopops
I’ll spare you the big explanation regarding my mid-summer absence from the site. Let’s get right to the kooky popsicles. Similar to an off-the-beaten-path New Orleans snowball shop, Durham’s Locopops is a humble storefront that offers nothing but popsicles. Mexican-style paletas actually. Only the flavors are totally insane.
Like mojito, tamarind, and cucumber with chile. According to wikipedia, their funky flavors have even included black pepper cream, olive oil and avocado. After waiting in a long line, you soon see that a large white board separates two lists: creamy treats and water-based treats. After consulting the seasoned veterans in line, Sarah and I decided the best strategy was to order two small paletas, one of each variety. I first tried the mojito. It was just like the Cuban cocktail. Perfect for a typically humid July evening. Followed it up with a creamy latte. Word outside on the bench was that a Chapel Hill location may be in the works…
